Rooted in the past, growing a sustainable tomorrow

Celebrating over a century of innovation in agriculture and looking ahead to a sustainable, resilient future.

#GlobalFertilizerDay

Fertilizers,

an evolving mission

From feeding the world, to growing sustainably, to advancing a decarbonised future. Our mission evolves, but our industry remains indispensable for life, today and tomorrow.

In 1908, a ground-breaking discovery changed agriculture forever. The synthesis of ammonia enabled fertilizers to transform farming, ensuring billions were saved from hunger. This innovation set the stage for the modern agricultural revolution and paved the way for sustainable food production. Every year we celebrate Global Fertilizer Day on 13 of October, commemorating the Haber-Bosch patent on synthesis of ammonia from air in 1908.

Did you know that mineral fertilizers are vital in feeding half the world’s population? By ensuring crops receive the essential nutrients they need, fertilizers ensure food security across Europe and beyond

Farmers are the stewards of our land, and fertilizers equip them to grow more with less. With high-quality nutrients, innovative solutions, and digital tools the European fertilizer industry supports sustainable farming practices and helps feed the world responsibly. Together, we are cultivating a greener today and tomorrow.
The European fertilizer industry is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, having already decarbonised its production by 50% since 2005. By investing in low-carbon technologies, we are playing our part in Europe’s green transition and ensuring a sustainable food system for all.
